I think most people who have believed in Santa Claus remembers exactly when they found out that he wasn’t real.
I know I sure do.
I was in the second grade. Winter was fast approaching and everyone (all my classmates) at school was already talking about what they were going to ask for from Santa and all the presents they were going to get. I observed these conversations without saying much as there was a burning suspicion inside of me that my mom and dad were Santa Claus.
One early morning, in the car on the way to daycare, I finally found the courage to just ask my mom: “Mom, why does your handwriting look like Santa’s”?
My stomach tightened.
My mom took a deep breath and said: Well, honey, I think you already know.
My stomach tightened further and my tears started to form.
I did know.
Once you know the truth you CAN’T go back to ignorance.
When you realize you want to leave your job and create a freedom filled and more fulfilling life, it’s similar. You can try to erase this thought by listing-off all the great things about the life you have now: a stable salary, great colleagues, a status you’re proud of . . .
But, the truth is that once you realize this you can’t return to ignorance tomorrow. It’s too late.
This is what I call the Santa Claus effect. When you know you know. Despite all your efforts to avoid it, turn it around, or “un-know it” it is impossible. You can never truly shake that belief because it’s your truth. It’s what you really want and there is no going back.
Not only is there no going back, but with one truth in hand, if you let yourself, you’re likely to uncover many more.
Now, I know you may be freaking out because you know you know.
Please, don’t worry! There is hope, my friend.
In fact, when you know this you’re on your way to unearthing the greatest gem in life; You’re on your way to what you truly desire. You’re on your way to your dream life.
