It doesn’t matter which of these apply to you:
- You are still stuck at your 9-5 and want out, but have no idea how to do that . . .
- You are trying to pick a side hustle or small business idea that is a best fit for you.
- You want to start building a side-hustle which will help all your dreams come true.
Whichever your case: NOW is the BEST time to get started.
Let me repeat that NOW is the BEST time for you to get started.
I’m sure you’ve heard that before.
In my case, I had to hear it many times before I actually started taking some serious action.
If you’re procrastinating don’t be too hard on yourself.
Procrastinating getting started is way more common than you may think.
And if that is your case, I bet I can guess why . . .
You’re one of those people who likes to know most of what there is to know about something before taking the plunge. You are responsible and like to have the reassurance that things will go well. Plus, there are so many ideas out there and up in your head, that you’re not sure which one is the right fit for you.
Sound like you?
I’m guessing so.
So, how did I know that?
Simple. Most people are seeking these things.
They want to know that things are going to work out before investing time and effort. They want to know with 100% certainty that they will be successful. They want to know that their final choice is the right one.
And to an extent, this is a smart move.
It is positive to bring responsibility and care to your decisions, although most people bring far too much. They suffer from paralysis by analysis and watch on as others build their futures wishing they could do the same.
Don’t be that person.
STOP wishing and dreaming and START moving and building. Today.
I’m not going to lie to you and tell you things are going to be a walk in the park. Most of them won’t.
I’m going to share 5 freeing truths that will help you see why you should get out of your head and just start building your small business today.
Use these truths to debunk the lies (excuses) you’ve been telling yourself!
Write them down.
Revisit them and remind yourself of them frequently.
Number 1: There is no “perfect” fit for you, so quit trying to find it.
Don’t get me wrong, you should pick a business or side hustle idea that is a fit to your personality, your strengths or an area you’re willing to learn in, but this is not the be-all-end-all.
What I mean by that is that is whatever you do decide can be adjusted, changed, and even totally transformed. But, you’ve got to start for those transformations to come about.
Just ask any entrepreneur out there how they got started. Chances are one thing has led to another and they’ve made many pivots ranging from slight to radical.
Number 2: Your success is not guaranteed and that is NOT because you are you. No successful entrepreneur knew that they would be successful before they started.
Risk is part of the equation. And the truth is that you CAN afford some risk.
Did you know that when elderly people are asked what they regret about their past nearly none of them talks about things they did do?
Almost all share about all of the things they wish they would have done and didn’t.
They are left wondering how life would have been different if they had . . .
So let me ask you, have you evaluated the risk you run of regret if you don’t get started?
Number 3: You are already skillful (and you can learn).
A lot of people look at the small business or side hustle they want to create and decide that they don’t have the skillset to do it, and so they don’t.
Many others aren’t sure about their skills or how those may match up with all the opportunities out there.
They get so caught up in these stories that they forget that they DO have skills.
You heard me right. You have skills!
Whether they be natural, learned at school, in your last job . . . you’ve got them! Don’t sell yourself short.
If you’re unsure of your top skills, you can pay $19.99 to find out at https://www.gallup.com/cliftonstrengths/en/254033/strengthsfinder.aspx
(A side note: I DO highly recommend doing some in-depth self-inventory before choosing your side hustle, soon to be small business)
In the end, if you uncover that you don’t have all the skills that you need for the business you want to start I’ve got good news for you.
Neuroscientists have determined that neuroplasticity does exist in the adult brain. We are natural learners and we can learn just about anything.
So, you can learn the skills that you need by researching online, reading a book, listening to a podcast, or even signing up for a course.
Number 4: Starting your own business is not easy.
Did someone tell you quitting your 9-5 and starting your own business was a walk in the park?
If so, I’m sorry to let you down, but that was not the truth.
It’s not easy. But, the good news is that it’s actually not that hard either.
Seriously. It’s not.
When you look at the entire process of quitting your current job, building your own business and scaling it’s a huge feat.
However, if you break it down into little steps it becomes a lot easier. It’s all about putting one foot in front of the other, consistency, and willingness to get back on the horse after you’ve fallen.
If you can do that, you can build your own business and dream life.
Don’t believe me?
I know you’ve observed at least one person, if not many out there who have started their own side hustle or small business and thought “I know I’m just as smart and capable as they are.”
And that is because you are!
Number 5: Things will seem a lot harder and scarier than they actually are before you do them.
I know that you’re thinking that this whole endeavor is looking rather daunting. I don’t know what fears and excuses you’ve got, but if you haven’t started I’m sure you’ve got them.
I’m sure about that because if you’re reading this it means you have a brain. And if you have a brain I’m sure it’s doing its job which is attempting to keep you safe and expend the least amount of energy possible.
The brain will go to great lengths to do its job. It will come up with stories, excuses, and all sorts of fictions which people often mistake for truth.
But, we can debunk these narratives and beliefs. It’s very easy: Do whatever it is you’re afraid of or avoiding and then ask yourself how it was different than you had perceived.
100% of the time you’ll find that it was not so hard and not so scary!
